The horrific events that unfolded July 13 outside of Pittsburgh dramatically altered the course of political events, from the top of the federal ballot to under ticket races. A former president of the United States running again for the highest office in our country, comes within a sidelong glance of being assassinated on live television. But maybe we should not be surprised at the reaction to this once-in-a-generational event in American history
Democrats clinging to a fleeting strategy of getting their befuddled shell of a candidate/incumbent president across the Nov. 5 deadline have now failed. Despite the deadly assault aimed at former President Donald Trump that killed a rallygoer and left others gravely wounded, Democrats are now left only with a new, unknown candidate and their worn out narrative that our Democracy is under attack.
Meanwhile, it is the Democrats who took a wrecking ball to Democracy. After concealing President Joe Biden’s mental capacity, they needed a do-over to undo the mess they created to retain and expand their power. They gutted the primary process and then were forced at this late stage of the political season to vanquish their candidate that they staged their entire Potemkin Village for in the first place.
The Democrats rigged the primary process by switching South Carolina’s primary to the head of the schedule, knowing it was the safe haven that saved Biden in 2020. Meanwhile, historically problematic states for Biden, like New Hampshire and Michigan, were strategically scheduled to vote after the Biden ticket was already more or less set in stone.
In the aftermath of the disastrous June 27 debate, and failed follow-up attempts in the press to convince voters the President is not failing, Democrats panicked. Reports indicating that antsy big donors who were waiting on the sidelines with tens of millions in donations in abeyance, apparently proved fatal to his candidacy.
That and declining polls.
But if Joe Biden is not fit to run as a candidate for U.S. president as many people now believe, how is he fit to serve as president until Jan. 20, 2025? A federal investigation has already determined that he is not fit to be charged federally for procuring and storing classified documents in his garage because he is mentally enfeebled.
So, who, exactly, is the “threat to democracy”?
If Democrats won’t even acknowledge the economic pain caused to citizens by year-over-year inflation, gaslighting you and your neighbors by insisting inflation is down, how could anyone expect them to defend our democracy?
We can’t.
If they won’t protect our nation’s borders, and if they’re pushing to expand costly state services to illegal immigrants, is that defending our democracy?
No, it isn’t.
The message from Democrat pols couldn’t be clearer: Democracy is great, but only if they control it from a backroom somewhere.
Their problem with hypocrisy didn’t evaporate when party power brokers resolved their ticket headache by dumping President Biden. The American public will expect details on who knew about Joe Biden’s declining capacity and when, and Connecticut residents will want to know how elected Democrats here feel about supporting candidates associated with an obvious coverup that threatens democracy.
If the fate of democracy is on the line this November, as our Democrat colleagues have claimed, then those questions surely deserve answers. And it’s up to all of us — the media included — to keep posing them after Democrats inevitably coalesce around their party nominee.
